Puppet studio Mackinnon and Saunders, which has created puppets for Tim Burton's cult films The Corpse Bride and Frankenweenie, the Oscar-winning Coraline and Wes Anderson's exceptional animated film Fantastic Mr. Fox, returns to Skupa’s Pilsen. The puppets to have left the Manchester studio most recently were part of the latest adaptation of the famous Pinocchio story by Guillermo del Toro, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature of 2022. Richard Pickersgill, workshop supervisor, puppet maker and head of technology at Mackinnon and Saunders Ltd., will present the making of the film at the festival. Richard is the principal designer of the Pinocchio puppet – the world’s first stop motion puppet to be animated in a major movie with an armature created almost entirely with metal 3D printing technology. Just like last time, Richard will be bringing the puppet originals to Skupa's Pilsen, both Pinocchio and the heroes of other famous puppet films he has collaborated on.
